PROJECTS FOR 2012
THE MONK’S HABIT FOR GRANGE BARN;
We are attempting to make an accurate re-creation of medieval habit from hand-spun, handwoven wool, using fleeces which would have been available at the time. The wool has been carded and members have started to spin them. We shall need over 2 kg. of white yarn for the tunic and about 600g of black for the black hooded scapular.
THE PAYCOCKES CUSHIONS;
We have become involved in the quest to spin and dye yarn for a pair of wool embroidered cushions for Paycockes.
The yarn has been spun and weighed out ready to be dyed using natural dyes from plant materials. The crewel work will be done by one of the NT volunteers.
THE CRESSING TAPESTRY OR WOVEN HANGING;
The panelled design, based on the barns is now ready and the yarn has been spun. Next year,we shall have a dye day to dye the yarns ready for weaving. The finished hanging will be made up from seven vertical strips, each depicting some aspect of the barns and the site.
